Appointments

Booking Appointments Online

You can now book appointments online via My Health Online , new users are required to complete a registration form available from dispensary or reception.

This service is not suitable for urgent problems requiring on the day care.

Routine Appointments

We hold routine appointments to see a GP in the morning and afternoon Monday to Friday in Welshpool and in the afternoon only in Guilsfield Surgery. Patients are usually allocated 10 minutes for a routine appointment. These appointments are to be booked in advance either by phone or in person at the reception desk.

We encourage patients to see the same GP where possible. Sometimes waiting times for particular GP’s can be long due to annual leave/ sickness/ study leave and this may result in an appointment being booked with an alternative GP.

Urgent Problems

If you have a more urgent problem, you must phone the surgery on 01938 553118.

The receptionist will take your personal details and the details of your problem and arrange for a clinician to phone you back  within 2 hours. Please ensure you give the receptionist as much details as possible to ensure the call is prioritised correctly.  The clinician will give you advice, offer you an appropriate appointment or arrange a prescription.

We encourage patients to contacts us at the time of day they are able to attend.

We no longer operate a sit and wait surgery. You are now unable to turn up at the surgery and expect to see a Doctor.

If you have an emergency, please phone 999.

Telephone Advice

Many problems can be dealt with over the telephone, without you needing to attend surgery. If the doctor is not available at the time you ring, your details will be taken and the doctor will return your call as soon as possible. The receptionist may ask for some details of your query so that they can collate any necessary records or letters prior to you speaking to the doctor.

Practice Nurse and Healthcare Assistant

We offer a range of appointments with our Practice Nurses and healthcare assistants to patients. These appointments should also be booked in advance either by telephone or in person at the medical centre reception desk.

We offer several types of clinic e.g. Well Woman clinic and Asthma clinics.

Please be aware that reception staff may ask what the appointment is for. This is to assign the patient to the correct Nurse and to allocate the correct duration of time.

Chaperones

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. This chaperone may be a family member or friend. On occasions you may prefer a formal chaperone to be present, i.e. a trained member of staff.

Wherever possible we would ask you to make this request at the time of booking the appointment so that arrangements can be made and your appointment is not delayed in any way. Where this is not possible we will endeavour to provide a formal chaperone at the time to request. However occasionally it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment.

Your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations in accordance with our chaperone policy.

If you would like to see a copy of our Chaperone Policy or have any questions or comments regarding this, please contact the Practice Manager.
